About Us
Known worldwide for the quality of its list, HarperCollins Canada is home to many bestselling and award winning authors including Esi Edugyan, Heather O’Neill, Kamal Al-Solaylee, Tara Westover, Emma Donoghue, Jael Richardson and Thomas King – to name a few. In addition to the Canadian publishing program, HarperCollins Canada also manages the sales, marketing and publicity of international brands such as J. R. R. Tolkien, Agatha Christie, C. S. Lewis and Shel Silverstein.
In 2014 Harlequin became a division of HarperCollins Publishers to help fuel HarperCollins’ international growth strategy and accelerate the digital evolution of both companies.
Launched in Winnipeg in 1948 by former Arctic explorer Richard H. G. Bonnycastle Harlequin started as a publisher of inexpensive reprints of detective stories, cookbooks, westerns and the occasional tragic love story. When his wife Mary took over editorial duties she focussed on the vast, untapped market of female readers in Canada who loved reading British romance novels. Today, Harlequin is a leading publisher of commercial fiction and narrative nonfiction publishing more than 100 titles per month spanning a broad number of genres including romance, historical fiction, memoir, journalism and young adult fiction.
